What is the Work Happiness Report?

The Work Happiness Report is the only representative study on workplace happiness in the DACH region. Published by awork and scientifically supervised by Prof. Dr. Ricarda Rehwaldt, it examines annually how happy knowledge workers in Germany are with their jobs. It is based on the HappinessandWork Scale (HaWoS), which measures workplace happiness across three factors: sense of purpose, self-actualisation, and community. The study has been conducted annually since 2022, surveying over 1,000 respondents each year.

How did the Work Happiness Report come about?

awork believes that work should be more than just a means to an end – it should offer the opportunity to find fulfilment. This conviction led to the creation of the first Work Happiness Report in 2022, in collaboration with Appinio and under the scientific guidance of Prof. Dr. Ricarda Rehwaldt. Since then, the study has been conducted annually, delivering robust data on what makes people happy at work – and what doesn't.

What topics does the report cover?

The report examines the current happiness score of knowledge workers, broken down by factors such as team size, role, and industry. It also covers resignation intent, the relationship between salary and happiness, motivation and engagement, and the economic effects of workplace happiness on creativity and productivity. The 2025 edition also includes a country comparison between Germany and the UK for the first time.
